1994 Chrysler Concorde 3.5L 178,000 miles. Well my reverse went out about a year ago with no signs. It just up and quit. And it was right after we changed the transmission fluid and filter. Now every other gears works perfectly with no problems or noises. Just reverse will not work.
I tried some Lucas transmission cleaner about a week ago to see if it would work but so far no good. I read a repair manual and it had the problem listed and it said i needed to change the fluid and filter to solve the issue but i dont think thats the problem but then again i have no clue. The car runs great other than the reverse problem no noises leaks ect.
Any help with this would be amazingly appreciated! That trans has a reverse clutch pack that consist of two disks and one steel plate. If that burns out then you will loose reverse only and all other gears will continue to work just fine. This is fairly uncommon with this unit.
Used transmissions tend to be very worn out unless it was rebuilt with newer stronger parts. If you get a used one see if the trans has been painted or tagged as rebuilt. The torque conv may be painted as well. This may increase your chances in getting a good used trans Bob. The name of the game in the trans business is to pull the trans out and inspect it for an estimate Say $1,000. Once we have it taken appart then we will tell you how much we want to charge. Usually the new firm estimate is extremely higher then any price you could have imagined.

Sometimes higher than a factory reman with a 60,000 mile warranty honored at dealers all across the country. If you don't like the new staggering estimate then we will put it back together and insatll it in car, for only 1,000 ( your original inspection estimate!). So your out 1,000 bucks. Funny some shops have no idea what the max cost will be even though they have rebuilt 200 of the same transmissions in the last year.

Ask to see repairs orders of the last three repairs on the same trans as yours 2. Know the cost of a dealer factory reman trans 3.
Ask the shop if your trans is too expensive to rebuild, if you can bring a trans for them to install? If so how much is the total cost going to be (in writing ) if they install your trans. / Vehicle Speed Sensor SU3105 This is the most common cause. Of course, it could be the speedometer head in the instrument cluster, as well. Usually, if the speed sensor (VSS) has a problem, it will also affect transmission shifting if it's an automatic.
Just read your other post. If you are having water problems in the dash, this could be affecting the VSS as well. Sounds like it's time to pull the instrument cluster and take a look. Hi, I have a 2002 Town and Country Limited with a 3.8L engine (137k miles). The transmission appears to have gone out. When I place it in gear and rev the engine. It limits the revving to 2-3 rpms without going anywhere but it does engage.
Anyway, I have a 2000 Town and Country LXi also with a 3.8L engine with a lotta of miles on it (220k). Engine's acting up. Needs new freeze plugs, heater core, PCM, etc. Figured I'd take the transmission then junk it.

I was wondering if I could take the transmission from that and put it on the 2002. The engine configuration looks to be different at first glance from under the hood. I'm not going to buy a new transmission. I can't afford it. I'm not scared to wrench up on a car and have always repaired my own cars with the use of a repair manual. Could a possible rebuild of the 2002 be best than heading to my local junkyard for a used one?
Would a repair manual mechanic be able to tackle a complex job as a rebuild? If a junkyard is my best bet then how can I confirm what other years and models also work with the 2002. Thanks for any advice.
