Some manuals combine types (i.e. Parts + Operators, etc.), but the basic function of the manual types remain the same and are as follows:. Service Manual (SVC) - The service manual (a.k.a. Shop manual or Repair manual) tells you how to take the Ford Tractor apart, fix it, and put it back together. It is written in the language of a mechanic and may include valuable detailed information such as specifications, torques, ranges, etc. If you are serious about repairs or restoring, you need the service manual.
Ford 4000 Steering Box found in: Manual Steering Gearbox, Steering Ball Nut Shaft Bearing Kit, Seal, Ford - Fits: NAB, 2000 4 cylinder, 2031, 2121. Ford 4000 Manual Steering Gearbox Parts 4600, 5000, 5600, 4610, 5610, 6610.
Parts Manual (PTS) - The parts manual has exploded views of all parts on the Tractor giving great detail on assembly and disassembly. It also includes a guide for ordering parts. It picks up where the service manual leaves off. If you do your own repairs, you need the parts manual. Operators Manual (OPT) - The operators manual (a.k.a. Owners manual) is the book that came OEM from the manufacturer when the Ford 4000 Tractor was purchased. It gives the owner/operator instructions, shift patterns, capacities (anti freeze, crankcase, oil, hydraulic, etc.) and adjustment procedures (brakes, clutch, etc.).
This book is a critical tool for operating and maintaining your machine. Complete Kits - Get all the manuals for your 4000 Tractor plus a few other perks and ensure you will not be missing critical information in the middle of your repair job. See below for availability.
It is a select-o-speed. I looked at it today and decided to buy it.
I have half scrap price in it to start so I can always make my money back. I have found that the selecot matic is known for stripped clutch/input shaft splines. The way this one acts that is likely what happened. There is no power of any srt behind the clutch. I am going to get it some time the first of the week and want to get on fixing it or sending it to the scrap yard.
Bad part is that input shaft replacement is 2000.00 from ford. I got lucky and found a few online. If that dosen't work I will likely have this one remaned. Advice is always welcome. The book I have on it talks about a coupling that connects the transmission output to the pinion shaft. This coupling can be disengaged to allow the tractor to be moved with the engine off as bands 2 and 3 are mechanically engaged without the engine to prevent the tractor from rolling.

It is a shaft next to a dipstick but not sure which side of the transmission it is on. It should be near the connection to the axle on a round plate held on with 6 bolts with the dipstick in it. If that coupling is disengaged, there would be no power to the rear axle. From what I can tell, the SOS does not use a clutch either.
