CHM 316 Topics ( Hornback text): Carboxylic Acids & Derivatives, Enols & Enolates, Aromatic chemistry, Radicals, Diels-Alder Winter 06. Winter 04. The American Chemical Society (ACS) standardized Organic Chemistry exam will be used for Dr. Starkey's final exam in CHM 316. This exam covers the entire year of Organic Chemistry. The 2-hour exam consists of 70 multiple-choice problems, and there is no penalty for wrong answers (i.e., guessing is better than leaving a problem blank).
Acs Organic Chemistry Exams The Official Guide
The ACS has prepared “Organic Chemistry – ACS Official Study Guide,” which is available from Dr. Starkey for $20 (She will place a bulk order so you can get them cheaper). A copy of the Study Guide will also be placed on Reserve in the library. Starkey has two main goals for using the standardized exam:.
It serves as an assessment tool and gives us data about how Cal Poly Pomona students compare to the national averages. It serves as a capstone experience which helps students to see the year of Organic Chemistry as a whole. This review should be useful as you move on to Biochemistry (or if you need to take any professional exam in the future which includes o-chem!). Please note that Spectroscopy is included on the standardized exam. Since not everyone has had the o-chem labs in which we teach Spectroscopy at Cal Poly Pomona, these questions will be omitted from your final exam score (for the purposes of assigning your CHM 316 grade), but will be considered when the data is summarized and compared to the national averages. Therefore, even though these questions will have no effect on your CHM 316 grade, you will not be instructed to skip these questions, and we hope that you will attempt them if time allows.
